Workers drop off a durable yard container where you toss your primarily yard waste and some type-A household waste. Every four weeks, they drop off a 20-litre bag of composted soil and pick up the container's contents to add to the community compost.

Community Composting saves its more than 2,400 homeowners the hassle of maintaining their own compost and chasing away the pests it attracts. Drivers swing by houses in biodiesel trucks to freight type-A household and yard waste to a facility equipped to handle large branches and really stale fruit. All materials are ground up and heated naturally via window composting, a process which kills off pathogens and seeds.

Instead of languishing in landfills or hanging out behind dumpsters, composted food and yard waste return to the earth in a nourishing incarnation. Every week, Community Composting clients receive a bag of composted soil with which to to maintain their flowerbeds, top-dress their lawns, and keep their plants healthy.
