Amid a spacious 800-square-foot studio, 44 Wide’s team of professional shutterbugs imparts their camera-centric savvy upon nascent Leibovitzes via interactive and informative workshops. During the 1.5-hour Date Night workshop, tandem snappers can master the fundamentals of digital photography, such as navigating a camera or a camera phone, composing artful shots, and coaxing a sasquatch to say “cheese.” Along with lessons in technique, pupils develop an arsenal of post-shooting skills, such as how to print and store digital images. Each session is capped at 16 students to ensure individualized attention and to foster an intimate, friendly ambiance. Students should bring along a digital file containing a favourite photo, enabling 44 Wide’s image wizards to teach methods for hypnotizing the pixels into assuming the form of an 8"x10" print to take home. The centre also provides free parking after 6 p.m.
