If your exposure to the opera is limited to a song about a wabbit, then today's WagJag offers a chance to expand your experience and get more culture than that found on a shelf full of yogourt, with two tickets to The Opera Project's performance of Puccini's Gianni Schicchi for only $25 (a $50 value).
Gianni Schicchi is a one-act comic opera by Giacomo Puccini based on a minor incident from Dante's Divine Comedy. This nearly-100-year-old show features all the classic elements of opera, including heartbreak, deception, lawyers and an incredible underwater car-chase scene.* Each performance is preceded by a short concert with special guests Heidi Klassen, Willy Miles-Grenzberg, John Arsenault, Harout Markarian, Angus Bell and Jeanine Ynn. Fully staged in Italian with English surtitles, Gianni Schicchi is sure to please any audience, whether you're a Puccini perfectionist or you don't even know how to get the opera glasses to work. Your WagJag voucher is good for two tickets to any one of the performances on either June 7, 8, 9 and 10th.
All performances take place at the Canadian Memorial United Church, located at 15th and Burrard.
*Editor's note: There is no underwater car-chase scene in Gianni Schicchi. You're thinking of The Marriage of Figaro.theoperaproject.org
