Scout Notes: Frozen desserts: nearly always served with too much sugar and a side of guilt. For, as much as we love downing a pint of Phish Phood in one sitting, it ain't exactly a good habit. But fresh fruit, locally grown wheatgrass (from Vonnie's Greens), and zero sketchy additives? That's more like it. And that's why we were pretty stoked to discover Groovy Smoothie, whose ice-cold treats will satisfy your sweet tooth and your craving for a little bit of indulgence without sending you down a shame-spiral. The Midtown smoothie shop has spent the last five months satiating intowners' need for an afternoon pick-me-up, a healthy sweet snack, a post-workout cool-down, or the perfect way to keep cool during your afternoon of frolicking through Piedmont Park. It's true: the only thing as perfect as Groovy Smoothie's Peanut Butter Blast is their location, right around the corner from our beloved, nearly 200-acre expanse of greenery—and this joint is just about as ideal a perfect pre- or post-park stop as you could get. While many a smoothie chain might cheat by using fruit mixes or questionable additives, Groovy goes au naturale with their ingredients, strictly sticking to real fresh fruit, as it should be (along with whey protein, detox wondergreen wheatgrass, and ginseng, should you need a little extra pep in your step). Swapping out the ol' Haagen-Dazs for fresh, healthy, chock-full-o-vitamins fruit... sounds pretty groovy to me.
