Scout Notes:Like in most cities, pizza is a big deal in Chicago. At Tedino’s in Edgewater, the mighty stuffed pizza is king. The restaurant is an old-school pizza parlor with a large dining room, as well as outdoor patio seating, which caters to neighborhood families. Since 1989, they’ve been a go-to stop for stuffed pizza connoisseurs—the towering salty crust, layers of stringy mozzarella, top-loaded with pizza sauce and herbs. But Bill, the manager at Tedino’s, says he mostly goes for the restaurant’s thin crust pizza. It may not occupy as fine a point within our city’s pie history, but thin crust is also less likely to lead to extended naps—or worse: food comas—in a horizontal position on the couch. If you’re in the mood for another Chicago classic, go for the Italian beef sandwich. All the bread at Tedino’s is baked fresh daily. For something on the healthier side, try the Dino’s (that’d be the owner) Chopped Salad or the Caesar. Buffalo wings are given the “inferno” treatment, though you can also get them mild. The restaurant offers free parking in an adjacent garage, though may we suggest a leisurely walk to combat those fourteen slices of stuffed pizza you just sank?
