SCOUT NOTES: Wait... it’s already been five years? Five years of drinking, dining, DJ-spinning, seeing and being seen(ing) in this hip Midtown hideaway? Seems so, according to Sunday’s out-of-control five year anniversary party that the guys hosted over a whole hog roast, flowing champagne, whiskey and high fives. There we were, on the corner of Myrtle and Ponce, like restaurant groupies, toasting to the half decade of late-night bites, craft cocktails, and all around coolness that they seem to have achieved without trying too hard. And like true groupies we got to proudly wax nostalgic over our relatively longtime favorite hangout having not only survived in this sometimes fickle city... but thrived. So, let’s just say you’ve missed the first five years of Top Flr’s existence. (And I’ll avoid playing the part of annoying early diehard fan with that whole “Wait, what? You’ve never been to Top Flr?! Where have you been?” bit.) Let’s just get straight to the intro course: two bars with dueling cocktail experts, a menu of crafted classics (Manhattans, Sazeracs) alongside original, seasonal creations (The Carl Sagan, The Strange Horse); one DJ booth spinning ‘til the wee hours almost every night; a main dining area on that top FL[oo]R (sorry, we had to) space; an impressive kitchen providing a crowd-pleasing menu late into the eve; and great sharable plates like (our longtime favorite) Tuna Tartare Flatbread, cult favorite Truffle Mac and Cheese, and Duck Confit Pizza. For those of you who have made it around this block a few times, you need no intro, but will continue to see the kitchen and the bar refresh their game with seasonal soon-to-be-favorites continually added to the menu. Whether you’ve been hip to the Flr for a handful of years, or just now jumping on the trend (or can we call it a classic yet? Too soon?), we promise this is one Midtown staple that will be around for more than a few years. So long as the pretty people and industry folk need a regular place to call home after their shifts or before and after a night out. And let’s face it, that'll be for at least another decade. Or five.
