Description:
The Scoop: Vino 100 takes its name from the constant stock of 100 different wines
for under $25. Kick back in the dimly lit, art-adorned shop and sip on a
crisp Sauvignon blanc or a rich and complex Pinot noir, perfectly paired
with one (or several) of Chef Mark’s tasty appetizers. For those who are
new to vino, every bottle in the shop comes with a
barometer card, rating each grape from light to full, sweet to dry, so all the guesswork is removed and you can go straight to the type of wine you dig.
Scout Notes: Most wine enthusiasts can tell you the
exact bottle that made them a believer. For General Manager Denise
Jones, it was the 1990 Bertani Amarone. “The artistry and culture of wine is what makes it so alluring,” she shares, “from the grape
growers, to the decisions of the winemaker, to the importers if they're
from around the world, many layers of creativity and skill are involved
before the bottle of wine lands on our shelves or your wine racks." You can sip that very artistry for yourself at this wine bar/
retail shop, which makes a point of serving smaller production boutique
wines (meaning you won’t find them at QuikTrip).
Now, while I don’t claim to be a “wino” or anything, I’ve come a long way
since then. Clarity? Color? Subtle notes of bleu cheese? Having long
since guzzled my last box of wine, it’s really nice to go somewhere like
Uptown’s Vino 100, where the grapes are good, and the experience is
even better. Split a bottle with your friends while you show off your skills in
a game of Trivial Pursuit, chess or Uno. Because nothing goes better with
a full-bodied cab than a little healthy competition. Well, maybe the cheese
plate.
