Greg and Kate (Cindy Williams and Eddie Mekka of Laverne and Shirley) are an upper-middle-class, upper-middle-age couple with a newly emptied nest in Manhattan. Kate welcomes this new chapter of her life, as she is eager to rejoin the workforce and finally put her own dreams before the needs of her children. Greg, however, finds himself frustrated and bored. While listlessly wandering the park, he stumbles upon the soulmate he didn’t realize he was missing: Sylvia, a young, blond labrador-poodle mix. Kate tries to be as supportive as she can, but troubles burble beneath their lived-in marriage as Greg spends more and more time with the talkative canine ingĂ©nue. The surreal humor of Sylvia’s unexplained sentience tints the narrative throughout, but the play is driven by the real emotions that accompany aging and coping with change.
Mayfield Dinner TheatreMayfield Dinner Theatre’s newly renovated playhouse boasts not only brand-new acoustic and lighting systems, but also an expanded buffet complete with a chocolate fountain and a chef-tended carving station. Salads, seafood, and other hot entrees await audiences before every show, then roll out again later in the evening for a mid-intermission snack. Recognized with Elizabeth Sterling Haynes awards in both 2011 and 2012, Mayfield Dinner Theatre offers the most professional dining-dramatics combo since the Tim Hortons all-donut puppet show closed last year.
