Run by a brood of equine enthusiasts in the McCarty family, Heart of Dixie Farms welcomes visitors onto its cozy piece of Elbert County for saddled services such as lessons and trail rides. Family matriarch Dixie McCarty, who is also a middle-school teacher, imbues her instruction with a gentle touch as the farm’s head instructor, trainer, and bathroom-pass distributor. Her lessons focus on proper riding form in the styles of Western Pleasure, English Pleasure, or jumping, as well as basic instruction in timed events. Riders-in-training can show off their newfound skills on the property’s shaded trails or coordinate a ride at nearby Watson Mill State Park.
